Me:

I’m a London based singer/songwriter. When covid/lockdown hit, like many people, I was forced to think about what I was going to do with the next year or so of my life.

I’d always enjoyed singing and I played around with a few covers, I finally settled on Haddaway’s “What is Love” having always loved the song, but hearing something more than the upbeat 90’s dance track tempo that many know it for. I felt the sadness and desperation in the lyrics and the minor key it was written in.

I decided to come up with my own acoustic cover, a composer friend of mine heard the early version of that and sent it to Tom Fuller at Tileyard Studios, he agreed to help me shape/record it properly and now I have a track I think hits the essence of those themes of sadness and desperation.

Having enjoyed working together so much on What is Love, Tom agreed to do an EP project with me and we have spent the last few months working on it together.

The EP:

Co-written with and produced by Tom Fuller (Tom Walker, Patrick Wolf, St Lundi, Dolores Forever) at Tileyard Studios, the EP comprises of five original tracks and one cover. All the original songs are very personal and about real life events, people and feelings. This comes across in the music/lyrics and my hope is that people will really connect to the songs and recognise the vulnerability and soul that has gone into the music. If people listen to the tracks and actually feel something then I’m happy.

Key through lines include strong piano melodies, well crafted lyrics, a good use of vocal range and layered backing vocals/harmonies to give an almost choral feel in parts.

My musical influences for the EP range from the story telling of Kate Bush, production of David Kushner, vulnerability of Bon Iver, right through to the soul of Hozier’s music. Other general influences include Tom Odell, Jack Garrat, James Blake, Jacob Banks, Tom Walker and Freya Ridings.
